Automotive Engineering’s top ‘International Go-Kart Championship 2017’ concluded at LPU Campus

Jalandhar: The School of Mechanical Engineering at Lovely Professional University (LPU) organized four-day International Go-Kart Championship (IGC) 2017, which concluded today at its campus. LPU Society of Automotive Engineers & Collegiate Club (LPU-SAE CC) monitored the whole event for 20,000+ spectators. Much awaited in the engineering students’ community, the event witnessed Innovative engineering students’ self-designed go-karts speeding up on 10 Kms long ‘first ever in-campus Race-Track’ in India. Of 70+ teams registered by international & national students from 7 countries & Indian states, only 25 teams entered final racing round. Showcasing excellent design, sturdy construction and efficient kart, the teams ‘Vijayant’ from Oriental Institute of Science & Technology (Bhopal), ‘Agonaz’ from Government College of Coimbatore and ‘Argus Elite’ of LPU won first prize (Rs 1.10 Lakh), second (Rs 70,000) and third prize (Rs 50,000) respectively. In all, cash prizes worth Rs 3,50,000 were distributed to the best teams adjudged in different fields. 15 Eminent Judges from the world of auto-industry including Maruti Suzuki, I-CAT, Hero Motors Corp, TCS, Mahindra Swaraj, Mahle, Natrip and Eastman judged the event.

 

 

Prior to this LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal & Senior General Manager I-CAT Mr UD Bhangale had flagged off the race in the morning hours, and awarded the trophy and cash prizes to the winners during the celebrative hours in the evening.  Congratulating all winners and the participants, LPU Chancellor Mr Mittal motivated all students to keep on applying their theoretical knowledge into creative and dynamic forms to further excel in the world.

 

 

Near 1000 students and faculty members from across India and many countries participated with strong belief to be judged as the best engineering team. After pre-final rounds based on technical, endurance and dynamic tests, the race of near 80 Kms was to be covered in one and a half hour for all the finalized Go-Karts.  The final teams used engines of 100 to 125cc in their vehicles for top speed of 80 kms and an average speed of 40-50 kms per hour. The participating students had to design and fabricate their ‘Go-Karts’ in extremely low budget and weight, and to be fit for several tests and tasks.

 

 

 

Explaining about the organization of the event, LPU Dean Dr Gurpreet Phull informed: “We had 200+ student and faculty coordinators with us, who worked day & night for full five-months to see this event come out successful in every aspect.  We all are thankful to LPU which keeps on organizing such research oriented, practical and innovative activities for student community as a whole.” Participating Girl-students Anushree from SRM University Chennai, Surbhi Dixit from OIST Bhopal and Alisha Pattnaik of LPU shared: “We are happy that we worked equally hard with boys in the male dominated field of automobile engineering. It was indeed a great experience for all of us. We all want to say that the event was ‘excellent’ in every aspect.”

Jalandhar: Talented students, Ajay Kumar Tiwari  and Amritanshu of Lovely Professional University (LPU), who have reached in the finals of global singing Star Plus’ TV channel reality show ‘Dil Hai Hindustani’, reached LPU campus today to enthrall their fellow students and respected teachers. Both of them were in the company of their fellow Russian artist Natsya.  All three of them were accorded hearty and emotional welcome at the campus.  Accepting best wishes from all at the campus, the three of them presented mesmerizing performances for the students, who yelled, yodeled and shrieked at every action, music and sound of them.

 

Selected among top contestants’, LPU Students, Ajay of M Tech II Year (Civil Engineering) & Amritanshu of Performing Arts, have always enthralled all judges, audience & viewers with their honeyed voice. The show is being judged by ace film-maker Karan Johar, singer-composer Shekhar Ravjiani, singer Shalmali Kholgade and rapper Badshah. Congratulating them, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal blessed the trio to have a glorious win at the competition and to bring laurels not only to themselves but also to their parents and the university.

 

Budding student singers and professionals from around the world including Russia, Brunei, New York, and Indian States Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and many more are showcasing their talent as a solo performer or in a group at the show ‘Dil Hae Hindustani’. As Ajay & Amritanshu are pairing with a Russian girl, Nastya, they have trained her in Hindi language also, and now she pronounces perfect Hindi. Their singing and music performances always leave all dumb-founded in passions and emotions. Reputed judges, audience, one and all praise their grand singing and music. During one of the shows, even the guest of that day Badshah of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan praised all of them for their classical presentation.

 

Thanking all at LPU who always messaged and encouraged them while being in Mumbai, Ajay and Amritanshu shared: “We are lucky to get a chance to reach on such a big platform. We are frank in admitting that this all could be possible due to our educational pursuing at LPU, where our talent was identified and shaped well. We could never have thought of singing or musical performances if our teachers at LPU had not identified our passion and talents. LPU made us to reach AIU competition, which is biggest platform for students. We won there and got LPU scholarships also. This helped us tremendously to further develop both our talent and study skills.”

Annual Mega Fest ‘One India-2017’ concluded at LPU Campus with ‘World Peace’ Promotion

Jalandhar: Carrying peculiarities of their respective states for others to understand, follow and imbibe; national & international students of Lovely Professional University from each nook and corner of the country and other continents worked together to promote world peace among all. In this regard, enormous assemblage and action-packed showcasing of beats, dances, expo-stalls, heritage and special performances achieved the aim of the year on the conclusive day of annual mega national fest of the university ‘One India- 2017’. The fest is held to let diverse student community feel the fervour of peace and unity by all means. Different student-groups and departments at the university worked together day & night to highlight the importance of the respective state of India in bringing and maintaining world peace.  During culmination hours of the fest, ‘&TV’ Programme ‘Voice India’ fame LPU student of MA Performing Arts Paras Maan presented enchanting Music Concert; whereas, LPU students from Mumbai presented hair-raising Mallkhamb exercises.

LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal and Director South Asia Relations at University of Western Australia, Prof Dr Hema Sharda, also graced the occasion. Mrs Mittal conveyed a great message to all the students that “Peace always rests upon mutual understanding and cordial relations”. Going in accordance to the theme of the year, each stall at LPU displayed the stories of successes and sacrifices made to maintain peace all around. Explaining about Tamil Nadu stall LPU Engineering students Balaprakash, Sathish, Santhosh, Gopi informed that Tamil Nadu is a land of temples which teach global peace in all manners. They also informed that this state has recently got ‘Largest Peace Protest” award from UNESCO. Different other stalls exhibited culture, monuments, festivals, dresses, ornaments, demons, deities, natural products, eatables and other peculiarities. During closing hours of the fest, student-groups and departments were awarded with prizes and certificates for their massive participation in exposition of oneness and world peace.

Jalandhar: Two-day annual mega fest ‘One India-2017’ was inaugurated today at Lovely Professional University, where thousands of student-participants from 29 states and 7 Union Territories of India worked together and converted LPU campus into the whole of India in real. This year, students are celebrating the theme of “World Peace” by proving it grand in form and aim. The most important point of the fest is that LPU students are seen representing other states than their own to showcase strong ‘Unity in Diversity’ of India. Even International students from 50+ countries are also participating actively to co-operate their Indian counterparts & to imbibe great Indian ideologies. On the first day of the fest, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal inaugurated the fest celebrations by plantation of trees and initiating the world-peace symbols. Chancellor Mr Mittal conveyed students that we can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace within ourselves.

 

 

Prior to this, LPU students chanted slogans for “World Peace” including “Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti Om; Why can’t we live in Peace; Always imagine Peace; Better Society, Better Tomorrow; Fight the Fight; Teach Peace to Each; and more,” throughout the campus, during 4 Kms long procession of tableaus representing each state and UT of India. Students showcased culture, dresses, songs, dances, historical aspects, and colourful procession about different regions. For this, 100+ exhibition & food stalls, 36 folk Music & dance performances depicted magnanimity of oneness among all. By visiting individual expo stall, LPU Management & Senior Officials inspired the students to go ahead in all unified works for the betterment of community, country and the world.

 

 

The fest- ‘One India’ is held every year at LPU Campus to let diverse student community feel the importance of unity by all means. The fest is indeed proving to be a grand effort in binding students in a single knot of unity amid great cultural diversity. Different LPU Schools represented different states of India separately, and their students worked together to bring out the great aspects of the individual states for 25,000 other on looking students. Tomorrow, on the conclusive day of the fest, valedictory ceremony will witness the great cultural showcase of continuous dancing performances of all the states of India and awards to expo winners.

 

 

At all states’ food stalls, raised by LPU hostellers, students of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal were seen serving foods of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh & Chhatisgarh like Bhutte Kaa Kees, Methi Puri, Malpua, Rugra, Dhuska, Apple Flack, Gahat Kofta, Makhiani Lassi, Himachali Sidu and more. Whereas, students from Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Rajasthan let other students enjoy North East, West Bengal, Telugu foods like Ghugne, Jhalmuri, Thuppa Soup, Bamboo Soft, Telebhaja, Aloo PoshotaKapok, Punnukulu, Mirpakaya and more. Same was seen during  diverse music and dance performances where a South Indian students performed for Bhangra, Giddah, Lavani, Ragini, Kalbelhia and North Indian students on Bihu of Assam and more.

 

 

At Assam stall Navjot Kaur (a B Tech Bio- Technology II year student) from Punjab; at North East Stall Elijah (an international student of BBA) from Uganda; at Kerala stall Anil Shah (a BBA student) from Nepal; and,  B Tech CSE II year student Nischit from Mumbai shared unanimously that this is the real and humane learning at LPU campus for which we have come from far off states to study at LPU. Through such activities of utmost importance we are imbibing the spirit of being truly global citizens. Highlighting factor of the celebration is that student of a particular state was seen working and performing for the other state. By doing in such a way, students availed a broadened opportunity to celebrate and pay respect to one-another’s culture.

Jalandhar:  Students’ Entrepreneurship & Events Management Organization ‘Altiora’ of Lovely Professional University organized grand E-DM (Electronic Dance Music) Evening at the campus. On this occasion, world-wide famous Disc Jockeys (DJs) Anish Sood of ‘Tomorrowland Festival’ fame and Zephyrtone ‘Sunburn’ fame enthralled the sea of youth at LPU Campus. The highly entertaining ‘Musical Evening’ witnessed two launches- ‘Ardour Fashion Week’ of LPU and Maruti Suzuki’s “IGNIS” Car for the youth.

 

 

Highlighting, LPU organization has already organized four major international & national level events including India’s all style Gulley’s Dancing Exclusive, Avante Gadre Fashion Week, Bio-Scope global Film Festival and Punjab Cine Awards. Mechanical Engineering Final year student Pushpender Dubey and BBA-MBA student Mayank Balian and their team- members organized the show. Both of these students briefed: “These events’ organization is to promote entrepreneurship and event management skills among all enterprising students at LPU campus. Our organization is also going to be listed as an enterprising start up with the government of India.”

In addition, Indo-Japanese carmakers ‘Maruti Suzuki’ launched its urban compact vehicle ‘IGNIS’ at Campus, today, for the young generation of India. The engineers and the officials from Maruti Suzuki & Nexa shared excellent details about IGNIS, including its bold looks, engine, transmission, safety and pricing, which all make it lighter, stronger, safer, more fuel efficient and quieter.

Jalandhar: Hon’ble Union Human Resource Development Minister, Government of India, Shri Prakash Javadekar visited Lovely Professional University today at its Management Conclave-2017 and Annual Honouring Ceremony to award illustrious members of staff and students. Speaking high volumes about different bright aspects of LPU, Hon’ble Minister said: “With strong diversity at its campus, LPU is a global university. Learning at such a university is indeed a basic and real learning rather than mere subject learning. I feel that only that country prospers in the world where its universities prosper.  Education is empowerment and it brings great transformation in life, society and everything.” Explaining that private sector is doing exuberantly well in present time, Mr Minister shared: “Our government is also working on public-private partnerships, where competition and collaboration between the two will certainly bring out the best of India. We feel, whether government or private, only good institutions will flourish and bad will go.  More an institution will be good, more autonomy it will have. Survive through competition and that is only the 21st Century India. It is really a challenge to improve government education sector, we will strive to correct it. Here I can say that both Public and Private sectors can co-exist and make India prosper. We want good education to all.”

 

 

Explaining about new education policy, Hon’ble Minister said: “The new education policy rests on 5 pillars-Accessibility, Quality, Equity, Accountability and Affordability. We are striving to make all education systems, prevalent in the country, clean and transparent.” Laying great stress on innovation and research, Minister Javadekar invoked all teachers and students to bring out new ideas. He said: “We are fastest growing country in the world. To keep up pace, innovate that is not existing. Research and develop and have as many patents as you can for the betterment of the society. We have great merit based scholarships for our students to retain best of brains in the country by following ‘brain gain and no brain drain’.” In this context, Mr Minister also shared about Global Research Interactive Network (GRIN), under which Indian students will be provided scholarship and opportunity to work with reputed foreign laboratories and would have liberty to come back to India and continue with their research. Invoking all at the campus, he concluded by affirming that we all will make our country tremendous on all aspects in the world by the year 2030.

 

 

During annual honouring ceremony, Hon’ble Minister awarded illustrious members of staff and students with Rs 20 Lakh and rolls of honour. For this, 6 LPU researchers, 20 students for their 10 pointer CGPA in their respective programmes, one international shooter, 20 national sports persons and 40 students for their excellences in different fields of cultural activities were honoured. In addition, Mr Minister also inaugurated Technical Session of ongoing Management Conclave-2017 at the campus. Mr Minister was also kind enough to inaugurate the national level annual cultural festival of the university ‘One India’, where theme this year is “Celebrating World Peace”. Mr Minister also became the grand part of tri-colour ‘Unity walk’ at the campus, along with 3500 staff members forming grand tricolor of India by wearing tricolor tee-shirts. Prior to this, Minister Mr Javadekar was accorded warm welcome by LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Rashmi Mittal, MLA Phagwara Som Parkash, LPU students and staff members.

 

 

Feeling proud on receiving the Hon’ble Minister at the campus, Chancellor Mr Mittal shared numerous untiring works those Mr. Minister undertook during his illustrious political career.  Mr Mittal shared: “Under dynamic leadership of Shri Javadekar Jee India will certainly be getting new education reforms. It is highly appreciable that HRD Minister has ensured that each stakeholder will be actively involved while education policy making. I am sure that Shri Javadekar’s initiatives will go a long way in getting PM Modi’s vision of ‘less government, more governance’ realized.” Mr Mittal also applauded Mr Minister’s being forward looking technocrat and steps taken towards bringing digital technologies in the education sector. Mr Mittal was also jubilant in sharing with Mr Minister: “Your coming to a private university affirms the confidence government has in the private sector; and, we at LPU assure you that we will never let this notion down.”

 

 

One of the awarded faculty members, Ravi, who hails from Hyderabad and has been honoured for his illustrious achievements in Fine Arts, said: “ No doubt, I always have faith in my abilities but it all goes to the university which identified my hidden talents and projected me on different daises. I want to say that our university deserves all appreciation for our consistent grooming to achieve more and more success.” Mrs and Mr Sewak Singh (DSP with Punjab Police), parents of International shooter Amanpreet at LPU, exclaimed that they are very happy on honouring of their son.

Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar will visit LPU Campus today

Jalandhar: Hon’ble Union HRD Minister, Government of India, Shri Prakash Javadekar will visit Lovely Professional University tomorrow, that is, 18th of March 2017. Hon’ble Minister will bestow awards upon LPU students & staff members for their illustrious achievements in the areas of research, academics, community services, placements, entrepreneurship, cultural and sports activities. On this occasion, Hon’ble Minister will also inaugurate the annual cultural fest of the university ‘One India’, where the theme “Celebrating World Peace” is being observed. Prior to this, Minister Mr Javadekar will also grace the concluding ceremony of ongoing two-day Management Conclave-2017 at the campus.

During the inaugural day of the conclave, the eminent key speakers, panelists and delegates from across the globe and the country participated massively to churn out brilliant ideas of growth and development for the country and the students. More than 300 papers were also received from countries including Italy, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka and more. Through his interactions with students, Deputy Dean and CEO, ISB, Dr Pradeep Singh declared that LPU students truly represent “New India”. Jalandhar: After winning silver medal in 50 meter free pistol event at the World Cup, international shooter Amanpreet Singh joined his classes once again at Lovely Professional University. Amanpreet was accorded a warm welcome by all the students and staff members at LPU. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal and Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal honoured him on his glorious win with a citation of appreciation and a cash award of Rs One Lakh to further strengthen his sports and academic activities. During the honouring ceremony, International shooter Amanpreet was along with his family-members. Presently, I am aiming to win gold medal in Olympics 2020, which are to be held in Tokyo (Japan).”

 

 

While addressing the students during an interactive session at LPU, Amanpreet said in response to a query made by a student, “Age is no bar; students should follow their respective passions with complete dedication. I also started my studies somewhat late and presently I am married and father of a three-month old daughter. However, I followed both of my passions, in academics as well as sports, with complete determination, dedication and devotion. The result is before you all. Now, I do not want to get slackened and will continue practice for my next target of Olympics. In addition, I will continue with LPU MBA programme also.” Sharing his personal life, he also informed that his little daughter “Wahenoor” is very lucky, for his career, as prior to her birth he had attempted 21 times with no solid results. Only his passion and his firm belief in the birth of a girl child have made him earn a glorious win.

Illustrative, LPU has recently inaugurated a shooting range on the campus for shooting lovers. LPU is planning to extend it on international level so that shooting enthusiasts in different categories may get opportunities to sharpen their talent at LPU campus itself. A few months back, when Indian Cricket Captain MS Dhoni paid a visit to LPU campus, a special LPU-MS Dhoni scholarship was launched to honour brilliant sports achievers at international and national levels. In addition, LPU also provides scholarships and other benefits to the international, national, state level players as per abilities and participations made.

Thousands of LPU Alumni from Canada to Bangalore gathered at Alumni Meet-2017

Jalandhar: Thousands of Lovely Professional University alumni from Canada, America, England, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi and more gathered at LPU campus for inaugural annual alumni meet ‘Home Coming-2017’. LPU had planned this grand alumni meet to recognize and celebrate the global achievements of its eminent graduates. Utilizing the whole day to the full, LPU alumni from all over the world and the country became nostalgic and shared great memories of the yester years with their teachers, classmates and friends.  Full of deep seated emotions, alumni accessed their respective class rooms, tens of sports ground where they used to play different games; hostel rooms where they lived home like life; met their mentors and teachers who shaped them to be truly global citizens; and, relived varied experiential moments of meaningful and fun-filled days spent at their alma mater- LPU.

 

 

Celebrating their massive gathering, all of them left no stone unturned to make their stay at the campus, once again, a great day of significance and of ever cherishing moments. LPU alumni also came forward with corporate social responsibility and donated 200+ pairs of shoes and stationery items to the poor children of the nearby villages. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal welcomed them all at the campus and blessed them to bring more name and fame to their parents, themselves and their alma mater through illustrious contributions to the global society for noble causes, progress, peace and harmony.

 

 

LPU awarded scores of its illustrious alumni in recognition of outstanding accomplishments, recognitions earned & CSR activities made in their respective field of endeavours, and for bringing prestige to the alma-mater. They were honoured for being great researchers, entrepreneurs, leaders, brand ambassadors in their fields and more. One of the alumni, Rahul Tyagi (MCA-2011) is honoured for his entrepreneurial endeavours for ‘Training at Lucideus’. His this company has 5 offices in top metro cities of India & the USA with gross turnover of Rs 40+ crores. Alumni Award 2016-17 for ‘Excellence in Academics’ were bestowed upon Dr. Vijay Kumar (Ph.D. – Chemistry (Full Time -2011) who is presently Research Officer with Government of India; Parul Sharma (BCA 2013), presently Cyber Security Professional at New York University; and, for performing arts upon Mohit Kumar (B. Design -2015) who is many awards winner ‘Film Maker’ & founder of Jovial Productions. Both Rahul Bisaria (B Tech CSE-2011), Specialist at Verizon Data Services India Private Limited, and Sunil Nagpal (B.Tech Biotech-2011), who is Researcher at Tata Research Development & Design Centre, have received Professional Excellence awards.

 

 

Founder & CEO at (Smiles Care/Simbacart/SimbaQuartz) and Philanthropic Adviser Mandeep Kaur (BBA – MBA-2011) has been recognized as Social Entrepreneur. Similarly, Founder CEO at Vélmenni, Deepak Solanki (B.Tech ECE-2011); and, Co Founder and Embedded System Engineer at TechKilla, Yashi Mishra (B.Tech ECE-2014) are awarded for Technology Leadership. The best alumni chapter award is presented to alumni association ‘Hyderabad Chapter’ in appreciation of its continued commitment to the LPU vision, growth and development of the society. Similarly, Parvinder Singh, working in Business Intelligence Amazon; Harleen Thind,  Engineer at Microsoft; Neha Mahajan, System programmer at Yahoo;  Navtej Singh Sandhu, working in Apple; and, Utkarsh Gautam, working in Google, all at more than Rs One Crore rupees are honoured as LPU Ambassadors. Bharat Gupta working with Samsung R&D has been awarded for his valuable support in creating opportunities of growth for fellow students and the Alma Mater.

 

 

Rahul has great Social Impact

Awarded for Entrepreneur Achievement, LPU alumnus Rahul Tyagi has created great social impact through his company ‘Lucideus’. An LPU student of MCA-2011, Rahul has many offices for his company in Bangalore, Ahmadabad, Mumbai, New Delhi & the USA, with gross turnover of more than Rs 40 crores. Lucideus has also been awarded as the Best Startup of India award under the IT (Information Technology) and ITES (Information Technology Enabled Services) category at the National Entrepreneurship Award 2016. Rahul has also been awarded to be in Blackberry Hall of fame. Rahul has worked for a lot of security applications and his company has also worked on government project ‘Bhim App’ to support PM Modi’s favourite “Notebandi” processes in India.

 

 

One Lac Pairs of Shoes to be donated to Poor Children

Awarded for Social Entrepreneur Achievement, LPU alumna Mandeep Kaur (Sidhu) Kalsi is a student of management and presently a great Social Entrepreneur. She is also a philanthropic adviser and aims to donate one lac pairs of shoes to poor children through her network in India and US. She is also founder & CEO at Smiles Care, Simbacart and SimbaQuartz.  Her first venture Simbacart has won “Upcoming Start Up of the Year 2016” Award by ASSOCHAM. She is very popular on social media and has earned 329,400 likes on Face book, and has 26700 followers on LinkedIn.

 

 

On this occasion, annual elections for key positions of 13 chapters of LPU international and national alumni associations were also held. Alumni took active part in election processes and voted online from prestigious countries including the USA, UK, Russia, China, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore and many more. Bharat Gupta (B Tech CSE 2011) has been elected International President of LPU alumni association, this year; whereas, Priya Malik (B.Tech. – M.Tech. Biotechnology Integrated 2011) as Vice President (National); Hitesh Sharma (B.Tech-M.Tech CSE 2011) as General Secretary; and, Navya Reddy Sane (B.Tech ECE 2014), Sharmili Ghosh (MBA-2016), Tanvi Gupta (B.Sc Biotech-2016), Monika Pathania (MCA (Hons.-2014), Arundhati Gupta (B.Tech M E-2016), Sahil Khanna (B.Tech ECE-2012) & Aditya Prakash (B.Tech 2013) as Executive Committee Members.
